The Fox Valley is a landscape formed long ago as glaciers advanced and retreated repeatedly across the land, leaving vast expanses of rolling hills and fertile fields. When the early pioneers arrived, a major factor in their decision to settle here was the region’s wealth of natural resources. Situated in the valley of a clear, swiftly moving river with a variety of habitats, the area abounded with fish and wildlife, fertile prairie soils and scenic splendor. Today, only a fraction of the native habitat that greeted the early
pioneers survives. Private landowners can play an important role in preserving the land heritage in the Fox River Valley. Those who are interested in stewarding their lands are invited to participate in the voluntary Heritage Land Registry program. What is the Fox Valley Heritage Land Registry program? Can I join the Heritage Land Registry program? Is this agreement legally binding? Will the general public have access to my land if I join the program? Read a testimonial from current program participants, Steve and Laura Pittner. It is located on our News page. There you will see the Fall 2004 Newsletter PDF containing their article. News in brief on the program is also located on our News page listing in the Member Update PDF.
